Day 1

Transfer to Agats

Arrive in Timika by early morning flight from Jakarta and wait for the connecting flight to Ewer (Asmat). Upon arrival, transfer by motorized boat to Agats, the capital of Asmat Regency. Check in at a simple local hotel. Lunch and dinner are served at local food stalls.

Day 2

Asmat Museum

After breakfast, visit the Asmat Museum to learn about Asmat cosmology, ancestor worship, and world-renowned woodcarving traditions. In the afternoon, walk along wooden boardwalks to Syuru Village and observe daily Asmat life shaped by rivers, mangroves, and the sea.

Geography Note: Asmat is a lowland swamp region. Villages are accessible only by boat, and forests are not walkable for visitors.

Day 3-7

Remote Asmat Villages Experience

Venture deep into the remote heart of Asmat territory by boat, visiting traditional villages in the Sawa Erma and Jetsy districts. Stay in traditional house and experience daily Asmat life firsthand—from fishing, canoe travel, and wood carving to forest walks and coastal living along the Arafura Sea. Evenings are highlighted by traditional drumming, chants, and communal gatherings, offering a rare and immersive cultural experience in one of Papua’s most isolated regions.

Accommodation Notes: very basic facilities, mattress & mosquito net provided.

Transfer to Agats

Return by boat to Agats, passing coastal scenery along the Arafura Sea. Enjoy a rest after days in remote villages.

Transfer to Timika

Transfer by speedboat to Ewer Airport and fly back to Timika. Check in at city hotel.
