We will begin the journey with a ferry ride from Sorong Harbor to Waigeo Island, which takes approximately 2.5 hours.

- Walking Difficulty: In this area the bird watching trails are mostly flat but there are uphill sections at some points, with some optional routes for longer bird watching (a few hours / ~2 hours at a bird watching pace).

Waigeo Island is home to two standout bird species. The Wilson’s Bird-of-Paradise is perhaps the most stunningly colorful bird in the world, observed from purpose-built hides. In the treetops, male Red Birds-of-Paradise form noisy leks, showcasing their highly-evolved dance moves whenever a female stops by.

Detail Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Waigeo - Raja Ampat
The tour starts with arrivals into Sorong Airport continuing to the Waigeo island of Raja Ampat, where we will be based for the next two nights at a the resort.

Day 2
Full day birdwatching
Today, we will begin our journey by exploring spots located not far from the resort. A short walk from the resort will lead you to the first location where you can observe two types of birds-of-paradise. Along the way, there’s also a chance to spot the Waigeo Cuscus during our journey.
Red bird of paradise
Day 3
Transfer back to sorong
Today, we will conclude our trip with a final morning birding session in the forest behind the lodge, followed by breakfast at the lodge before heading to the airport.
