We started out as local guides and regional bird watching lodge operators in Nimbokrang. We work closely with the local community in our tribe who are part of our team to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and the Birds of Paradise, which are deeply connected to our identity and culture.
Our mission is to introduce the ecosystem of our homeland Papua in a responsible way in conservation and help you create an experience that is not only extraordinary but also life-changing.
Alex Waisimon
Field Guide
Alex is almost 30 years of experience in the tourism industry and living in Bali, Alex returned to Papua 10 years ago to focus on birwatcing and wildlife with his family. In his first two years back in Papua, Alex worked as a local bird guide, learning how to organize birdwatching trips. With this experience, he began creating his own tours and working with indigenous Papuans to establish a birdwathing destination in Nimbokrang. For Alex, leading birdwatching groups rekindled his childhood love of exploring the jungle, where he found joy in listening to the sounds of birds and wildlife. Alex is also deeply committed to conservation and wildlife. He takes great pride in his dedicated and never-give-up approach to every single day in the field.
Carolin Waisimon
Field Coordinator
Carolin grew up in Bali, with over 10 years of experience in the hospitality and travel industry. After leaving her career in Bali, she began her journey by assisting on-site as a translator at her father’s place, Birdwatching Isyo Hill’s. She then continued with a short course in Sustainable Tourism Management (Australia Awards Indonesia) in Queensland, Australia, successfully completing a project on the existence of the Northern Cassowary in Nimbokrang. This experience sparked her love for Papua’s wildlife. Upon returning to Papua, she started organizing birdwatching trips in Nimbokrang. Over time, she discovered a passion for photographing animals in their natural habitats. She has now been involved in the tourism industry for nearly 14 years. She personally accompanies and guides female travelers in the field who wish to join individual or group tours.
